Allergic to latex condoms
A short while ago we discussed excuses guys give for not using a condom and quite a few chomas said that their guys have used the excuse "I can't use a condom because I'm allergic".
We think now would be a good time to discuss condom allergies, because it is a real thing chomas but only some people have it. So we'll be breaking it down in this article so that you know the facts and know how to respond the next time you hear this one.
Okay let's start with the first point: An allergic reaction to latex condoms is REAL.
Yes ladies, when your guy says he's allergic to condoms or that they give him a rash, he could be telling the truth. There are some people (both male and female) who are allergic to latex, a material that is made from a rubber tree. The allergic reaction is caused when people react to certain proteins that are found in the latex sap. People who are most at risk for latex allergies are healthcare workers because they are required to wear latex gloves.
So if he is allergic to latex condoms, he would most likely be allergic to other products made of latex such as latex gloves, rubber bands, balloons etc. He might also be allergic to certain foods such as avocados, tomatoes, bananas, kiwi fruit and chestnuts.
How do you know he has a latex allergy? A condom allergy can cause rash, redness, itchiness and blistering on the penis. The rash might occur 6-48 hours after the use of a condom.
However, sometimes these symptoms may be due to something other than the condom. Your partner could be allergic to perfumed soap (or something else he may have applied to his skin) or sensitivity to spermicide (which some condoms contain). If you or your boyfriend suspect that either of you is allergic to latex condoms, the best thing to do would be to see a doctor as soon as possible. This would also mean that you may have to stop having sex for a while until the problem is diagnosed and a solution is found.
If you or your boyfriend is in fact allergic to latex condoms then you would have to find alternative condoms to use. The doctor or trained medical professional would be able to offer you the safest methods to use here. This is why it is very important to see a doctor.
So don't just fall for excuses. If your guy says he is allergic to condoms, tell him to go to the doctor. If he refuses to get help then it's possible that he's just making the whole thing up. Be smart, and be safe.
