How to take the ultimate selfie
So you’re the expert selfie taker? How sure are you about that? A quick 'how-to' for the picture perfect selfie might be just what you need before entering Choma’s 'Upload a Selfie' competition.
Selfies are all the rage these days. Whether you want to scream diva like Kim K or King B, pout up a storm or just look plain down fly, there is an art to taking a cellphone self-portrait aka selfie. Here’s how to get tapping and clicking like the selfie pro you were meant to be.
Lights, camera, and selfie
You’ll want to find the right lighting for your selfie. Try facing your light source if possible. Natural lighting or window lighting is always preferable. Avoid standing with a light source behind you. It often makes your image look grainy and blurry.
Angles, angles, angles
You’ll want to hold your cellphone extending your arm out, taking your shots from above as a general rule. This combats the ugly double chin and offers an instant slimming effect. Play around a bit to find the perfect angle that brings out the best of your good looks. Try and tilt your head at a slight angle as a start and see what works best for you.
Look for a suitable background to frame your photo. Make sure that pile of clothing or messy dresser is out the way. Also no one wants pot plants or light poles growing out their heads so choose your background with care.
Get arty and glam with a photo filter or two. Hide that breakout if needs be. There’s plenty of editing apps around to make you cover girl quality.
No duck pouts please
Puckering up your lips in an attempt to look cute can end in disaster. If you’re no pout queen, stick to blowing kisses.
Hold your pose
You’ll want to hold your pose steady for a few seconds longer to make sure you don’t get a blurry photo. Remember it also takes a while to get the hang of tilting your head at just the right angle, smiling and trying to get your shot.
Smile, smile, smile
Show of those pearly whites and just be you. Don’t fake it by any means. Just have fun.
Take as many selfies as you can, you never know which will be your next profile pic. Or maybe your selfie could win you 1 of 10 Samsung Galaxy S4s when you enter the Choma “Upload your Selfie” competition. Simply upload your selfie to the Choma Magazine Facebook Page to stand a chance to win. Viva selfies, viva!
