Do you need to take a break in your relationship?
So you and bae have been going strong for a few months but recently things have not being going so well between you guys and you’re thinking that it might be time to break up and move on and live separate lives. But what if you just need to take a break from each other? It is possible to take a break from your partner without it turning into a break up. Read on chomas.
You take breaks every day; whether it’s taking a lunch break at school/work or taking a study break during exam time, you need to recharge so you can be productive. It’s the same with relationships – you may need to take a break to think about where you are both going within the relationship, where you currently stand in the relationship – and sometimes – just to have some breathing space.
So what could be the actual reasons for taking a break in a relationship?
You might have slightly ‘lost’ yourself in the relationship because you have been focusing too much on your partner. It’s time to reconnect with yourself as an individual and not as a part of a couple. Taking a break may help you re-focus on yourself.
Identifying and deciding what YOU want
You both may have realised that you like different things and the goals you each have for your relationship are not the same. You may want to go to university/college in a different province or you may just want to be in a long-term relationship and never get married while your partner wants to get married in future. You need time away to rethink your goals and find out if you are willing to reach a compromise, for example, you may decide to stay home and study in the same province as your partner to avoid being in a long distance relationship.
Is it real?
How do you really feel about your partner? If you’re not sure, then taking a break might help you get some clarity on how you feel about your partner. If “absence makes the heart grow fonder”, then that means your feelings for your partner are genuine.
You have neglected other important people in your life
Your relationship may have caused you to lose touch with your friends and family. Taking a break from your relationship can help you reconnect with them. Use this time to find a balance between bae and family & friends.
Taking a break should only be applied if you have doubts about where you stand in the relationship or if there is an issue pointing you to a possible problem (like losing your individuality or losing focus on important things) and you just need time away to find a solution.
If you decide to take a break in a relationship, it does not mean you should go your separate ways and date other people. It means figuring out where you fit in in your relationship and finding a way to deal with each other’s differences and accepting them.
