Advice for your first relationship
No matter how old you are when you have your first boyfriend or girlfriend, your first relationship can be a little scary. You might be worried that you won’t know what to do, how to behave or what to say to your new partner. Don’t worry choma, relationships are not that scary and can actually be a lot of fun as long as they are healthy and as long as you are happy. Here is a bit of advice for your first relationship.
Don’t be afraid of making mistakes
Relax choma, this is your first relationship so it’s only natural that you would feel nervous and perhaps make a few mistakes. Don’t worry too much about messing up, this is your first time after all so be easy on yourself. If you focus on what you might do wrong, you won’t be yourself and eventually this will make you and your new partner uncomfortable. If they chose to be with you then they must already like you. Just focus on getting to know each other better.
Don’t compare your relationship to others
It’s natural to want to compare your relationship to other relationships. You might find yourself comparing your relationship to your friends’ relationships, your family members’ relationships or the relationships you see on TV. All relationships are different so don’t try to make yours like others’. Focus on what makes your own relationship special and unique. All that matter is that your relationship is healthy and that it feels right to you.
Remember to maintain good friendships
It’s easy to get caught up in a new relationship. Especially in the beginning when everything feels exciting and fresh, you would want to spend almost all of your time with your partner. Spending time with your partner and enjoying the happy feeling your time together brings is part of the fun of being in a relationship. Just remember to still make time for your friends because you will always need them. If you start ignoring them for your new bae, it could hurt their feelings and make them feel ignored. Find ways to balance your time so you spend enough time with your friends, family and your partner.
Respect each other
One of the most important things in any relationship is respect choma. Remember that your partner does not belong to you and you don’t belong to them. Meaning, you don’t own each other and should therefore treat each other as individuals and not possessions. Especially because this is your first relationship, feelings of insecurity and jealousy might creep in fast and can ruin a new relationship. This can be avoided if you remember to respect your partner first. Respect their right to privacy, to spend time with other people and to say no to things they are not comfortable with. Your partner should also respect you in the same way.
Even if they have had previous relationships, they still need to respect your right to make up your own mind about things in this relationship. Just because this is your first relationship that doesn’t mean that you just have to go along with everything your partner suggests. Say no to anything that makes you uncomfortable.
Your first relationship may not necessarily be your last and this is not a bad thing choma. So don’t be afraid to walk away when you’re no longer enjoying the relationship or if your partner does things that are harmful towards you or themselves.
