Why ‘Making your noise’ is important
Choma, at the end of 2017, I launched a new section on the Choma website called Make A Noise, and I’m sure you may be wondering why it’s an important movement to be a part of, and why you should contribute your noise.
Well, here are a few reasons why you should make your noise today.
Contribute to making a change
Make A Noise is a chance for young people to speak up about the things that matter to them, and to be able to turn their voices into action for change. The whole point of Make a Noise is to encourage everyone to talk about the things they want to see change in South Africa and around the world. We would then take your posts, comments and stories and try to make that change happen - whether it’s getting more pads for girls in school or sending a petition to the government for more safe spaces for youth. You say what change you want to see and Choma will try and get enough people involved to either make the change happen or to create more awareness around that change.
When you post about a change you want to see in the world and others see it, you never know who you can inspire. You could even be helping someone who feels the same way but may not know how to voice their opinion yet. This is the way ideas are spread in communities, around the country and eventually - around the world.
Online is the fastest way to reach people who might not be close to you but shares your opinions or is going through something similar to what you’re going through; so the possibilities are endless, Choma.
Every movement in history that succeeded, did so because people came together in their numbers to make their voices heard. Think about the Women’s Day march of 1956, when over 20 000 women came together on the 9th of August to protest against the pass laws of the time. The women all had the same ideals and hope for their future. They were intimidated but didn’t let fear get in the way of standing up for themselves and each other.
Make A Noise needs strong young people, like you, to make it as impactful as it can be. It needs you to be the leader and say what you believe in, and what you think should change to inspire other young people.
Are you ready to Make Your Noise? You can do so right here.
