Choma’s end of year message
You and I have reached the end of another year, which may have either been good or challenging (or both). Nonetheless, you and I have successfully made it to the end of 2018 and that is worth celebrating!
As a unique human being, you’re constantly growing, changing and learning so, no matter what this year has brought, I want you to look back on the year that you had and embrace the mistakes that you made and learn from them going into 2019.
This year, I have touched a lot on health (both mental and sexual), sexuality, confidence and self-care, as well as the importance of healthy relationships and friendships. I hope that you continue to keep those lessons in mind as you end the year and go into a new one. You are the most important person to yourself, so your health and wellness matters!
It’s always important to remember that your life and your future is in your hands and it’s possible for you to succeed and change the circumstances of your situation. You’re never too young or too old to work on being a better version of yourself. No one knows everything so it’s important to keep learning. For the rest of these holidays, I want you to continue being a responsible young citizen in society - not only for yourself but because you never know who you might be inspiring along the way.
I also want you to continue spreading awareness and teaching those around you about the dangers of stigmatising mental health and STIs (including HIV), standing up against Gender-Based violence, the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, as well as the importance of consent and practising safe sex at all times.
Don’t forget to use the self-care tips that I gave you in order to take care of your well-being. Also, and very importantly, remember that you’re beautiful, strong, amazing and worthy of all great things. So, you should always laugh out loud as much as you can, be accountable and responsible for your actions and never be afraid to take chances in order to grow and learn.
I had a great year with you, Choma, and I hope that there are some valuable things I taught you - because I know I have learned a lot from you through your comments on my posts, your inboxes, WhatsApp messages, as well as on Ask Choma. I encourage you to continue to engage with me in 2019. Thank you for allowing me to be your Choma! I look forward to chatting to you again in a few weeks but for now: Happy Holidays!
