7 Confidence Boosters

The truth is everyone struggles with their confidence at some point or another, no matter how perfect they may appear to be. Sometimes it can be hard to develop confidence, either because personal experiences have caused you to lose confidence or because you suffer from low self-esteem. Here are 7 ways to boost your confidence.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

When you constantly compare yourself to others, you waste time and energy focusing on other peoples' lives rather than your own. Comparisons often result in resentment towards others and ultimately yourself. If there are external factors such as social media that give you the urge to compare yourself to others, you should consider going on a break to reconnect with yourself.

Surround Yourself with Positive People

The people you spend time with can influence your thoughts and attitudes about yourself, perhaps more than you realise. Pay attention to how the company you keep makes you feel. If you feel bad about yourself after hanging out with a particular person(s), it may be time to revaluate your circle.

Surround yourself with people who love you and want the best for you. Be around people who are positive and build up your confidence.

Take Care of Your Body

It’s hard to feel good about yourself if you’re not taking care of your body. If you practice self-care, you know you're doing something positive for your mind, body, and spirit, and you'll naturally feel more confident as a result. Remember that self-care can look like anything that makes you happy and at ease, something as simple as reading your favourite book or dancing to your favourite song like nobody is watching.

Be Kind to Yourself

Being kind with yourself means simply recognising that we’re all human. It allows you to become more emotionally flexible and helps you better navigate challenging emotions.

Start by practising gratitude. This is a great way of creating a more positive mindset as it helps shift your attention to the things you already have, rather than focusing on the things you don’t. Start by writing down just 1 thing that you’re grateful for each day, this can be as simple as having a warm, cosy bed, a roof over your head, or a supportive friend.

Practice Positive Self-Talk

Positive self-talk is all about reframing how you view things. It’s about consciously choosing to find ways to improve rather than beating yourself up over a particular outcome or blaming yourself when a situation doesn’t go the way you had planned. This can help you be kinder to yourself, overcome self-doubt, and take on new challenges. Don’t let your inner critic make you think that you’re less than you really are.
