Organisations to reach out to for drug abuse

Many Non-Profit Organizations in South Africa dedicate their work to preventing substance abuse and providing the necessary treatment for those who have fallen in the trap of drug abuse. Here are some organizations you can reach out to if you or someone you know is struggling with drug abuse.

SANCA CENTRAL RAND ALCOHOL AND DRUG CENTRE

This organisation aims to address alcoholism and drug dependence through the provision of specialized, accessible, and affordable development, prevention, and treatment services to people.

They offer services such as aftercare and reintegration services, behaviour modification programme, capacity building, diversion programme, employee wellness programme, multiple drug testing, prevention and early intervention services, and treatment (in-patient and out-patient). You can read more about their services here.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA)

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) is a free support group for drug addicts. Their program is open to the public. The only requirement for membership, is a desire to stop using.

The primary service provided by Narcotics Anonymous is the NA group meetings. NA meetings provide an environment of recovery in which anyone wanting to stop using drugs can share their experiences. These are safe spaces, and these sessions are held nation wide. Here’s where you can find a session near you.

Elim Clinic

Elim Clinic is a professional treatment centre that offers in–patient treatment to men and women, 18 years and older who suffer from substance use disorders and behaviour addiction. You can contact them here.

Ithemba Alcohol and Drugs

Ithemba Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Clinic is a free in-patient treatment clinic. They render therapeutic and medical treatment services to people who have a substance dependency problem. They offer a six-week treatment programme which includes therapeutic counselling, aftercare services, detoxification and 24/7 medical treatment. You can read more about them here.

Stabilis Treatment Centre

Stabilis offers treatment centres in South Africa that provide a full multi-dimensional treatment service to drug users and their families, at a fee. You can read more about them here.

These facilities are available for anyone who needs help with substance abuse. You never know who might need these services. I encourage you to share these resources with your friends, relatives and community.
