How to stay safe during the festive season
As much as you are allowed to have fun and do things that make you happy after the long year that you’ve had, it is also your responsibility to stay safe at all times. Here are my tips on how you can have fun and stay safe during this festive season.
Safety in numbers
Whenever you go out to the shopping mall, beach or party with a group of friends, always stay together. That way, you will notice when one of you isn’t around.
Download the Namola app
Namola is a free crime response app that was created for safety reasons. It helps you receive emergency crime, accident and medical help when you need it the most- at the click of a button.
It’s compatible with Android as well as iOS, so download this App on these links:
Don’t drink and drive
Drinking and driving is illegal and you don’t only put your life at risk, but other road users’ lives as well. If you are out at a party and there will be alcohol, make sure that the driver doesn’t drink. If you need any more reasons why drinking and driving isn’t cool, read here.
Always tell someone about your whereabouts
There are a lot of things that you could get up to this festive season but don’t forget to let someone know where you are going and the people you’ll be with.
Be cautious and vigilant
Whatever you do this festive season, I want you to always be aware of your surroundings. What I mean is that- don’t be on your phone while you’re walking because you won’t be fully alert to what is happening around you- which will make you an easy target for crime. You should always be vigilant when you’re out with friends and family by looking after your drinks and belongings to avoid consuming a drink that has been spiked or losing your valuables.
Regardless of the occasion, it’s important to put your safety and those that are around you first whenever you go out. Don’t forget to put on your seat belt and to be responsible in everything that you do because one mistake, could cost you a lot.
