5 reasons why you should use tampons

It’s common for many girls to be afraid of using tampons. You may have heard strange stories about them, such as them falling out or causing you to lose your virginity. These are just myths. Tampons are often a safe option and, if you’re someone who is active and doesn’t like to change a pad every hour, here are reasons why tampons might be a good option.

They’re comfortable

The thought of inserting a tampon (for the first few times) can be a bit scary and this is completely understandable. The trick to inserting a tampon is to make sure you complete relax and follow the instructions on the pack properly. Once the tampon is inserted, you shouldn’t be able to feel it. If you do, then it means you might not have inserted it in all the way. Remember, a tampon won’t get stuck or lost in your body so don’t worry about inserting it too far.

You don’t have to feel bad if you don’t get it right the first time because just like most things in life, practice does make it perfect.

They don’t stain underwear

Unlike sanitary towels (pads), tampons are made of cotton that’s meant to absorb your period, and, if they’re inserted properly,  they will not shift every time you’re on the move. This will reduce the chances of you staining your underwear.

You have to remember though, you should wear tampons for the specified time that’s indicated on the box, otherwise it will get too full and leak on your underwear - or even worse - give you toxic shock syndrome.

They’re good for sports

If you’re an active person that enjoys playing sports, you know that “aunt flow” doesn’t make it any easier, so a sanitary towel might leak or feel uncomfortable.

However, with tampons, you can enjoy participating in your favourite sport without any worries. Also, you can swim with a tampon on and you will not have to worry about leaking.

They don’t give a wet feeling

Since tampons are inserted inside the vagina, you don’t have to deal with that “wet” feeling every time you visit the ladies room.

They give you freedom of movement

Have you ever been in a situation where you’re walking around with a blood stain on your clothes even though you have a pad on? That might be because pads can easily shift and leak onto your clothes. Tampons give you the freedom to move however you want without worrying about having such accidents.

We all have different preferences when it comes to how we choose to manage our periods based on what we’re comfortable with. It’s important to remember to always pick the right tampon size based on your flow. You can read this article about other alternatives that you can use during your menstrual cycle.
