Benefits of the HPV vaccine

The HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is one of the most commonly contracted sexually transmitted infections, but luckily it’s one of the few STI’s with a vaccine. Here are some of the benefits of getting yourself vaccinated for HPV.

It prevents cancer-causing infections

The vaccination’s been proven to protect against infections and cervical growths that might lead to cancer in the future.

HPV vaccination protects against meningitis

The HPV vaccine’s recommended for kids that are 11-12-years old and protects against infections that can cause meningitis (swelling of the brain and spinal cord membranes caused by an infection).

Protection against genital warts

Since genital warts are easily contracted, so it’s better to get an HPV vaccine because it protects against them.

Long-lasting protection

The vaccine has been monitored for the past decade and provides secure protection against cervical cancer-causing growths and genital warts for as long as 10 years.

You can get it at a young age

The vaccine’s given to girls and women who are between the ages of 9 and 26, and also to boys and men from 9 to 21 years of age. The idea’s to make it available to people while they’re young and not yet sexually active so that they’re covered if they ever do come into contact with the virus when they decide to have sex.

The HPV vaccine is available at your nearest clinic for free, Choma and it can provide you long-lasting protection against this cancer-causing virus. Just remember that the vaccine doesn’t protect you against other STIs, such as HIV, so it’s important to use condoms every time you have sex (including oral sex).
