Q&A with Dr Sindi

1) Is it normal for your vagina to bleed about 6-8 days after your periods?

No it is not normal for this to happen. You need to go and see your GP or nurse clinician for a proper assessment. If you are sexually active, you may need to get a PAP smear done. Either way go and get assessed

2) This month I had my period early on….is it normal for you to have your period within 21 days after your last period?

Some women have a regular cycle whilst others have a cycle that changes every few months. Keep an eye on what happens next month, and if your period comes even earlier then go and see your GP or nurse clinician. Otherwise do not stress about it.

3) What causes pimples around your vagina?

The pimples around your vagina could be genital warts – caused by a type of sexually transmitted disease; Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Some women shave their pubic and vaginal area and as a result develop in-grown hairs and bumps in that area. The best thing to do is for you to get a proper examination. We need to make sure that the pimples are not serious and if they are, you must get treated.

4) What causes your breasts to itch?

Itchy breasts can be caused by an allergic reaction, hormones or a skin infection. For most women the itching happens during their period or when they are pregnant. It is not harmful but it can be embarrassing especially in public. If it is an allergy, you will have to figure out what your skin is reacting to. For some people it is their soap powder, others it is perfume or even the material that their bra is made of. If it is a skin infection then it will be easy to spot. The skin itself will show some or other rash. You will have to see your GP or nurse clinician if it is an infection.
