The Pros and Cons of Long Distance Relationships

If you are, or have ever been, in a long distance relationship then you know that it’s not that easy. However, just because they’re not easy doesn’t mean that they don’t work. The success of a long distance relationship depends on the two people involved. For those of you who are in one or want to be in one, I’ve selected a few pros and cons to help you decide if a long distance relationship is for you.

Pros:

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

You may have heard this saying before chomas. For some people in long distance relationships this is true. Being away from someone gives you a chance to miss them and therefore look forward to seeing them.

Maintaining your individuality

You’re in a relationship but at the same time you still have a lot of time for yourself. This allows you to maintain your individuality chomas. You can still have time for your friends, family and studies without feeling like you’re not paying your partner attention. You can also do everything that you want to do without feeling like you’re troubling your partner.

Get to know each other on a different level

Being in a long distance relationship means that your relationship is a lot less physical because you’re not around each other often. You have to rely on talking, texting or video-calling. This could be good because it might help you get to know the person on a deeper level and you can build a meaningful relationship that’s not based on the physical.

Keeping it fresh

Because you’re not always around each other, seeing your partner is always exciting.  This really helps keep things in your relationship fresh because you look forward to connecting with each other again.

Cons:

Out of sight out of mind

While some say absence makes the heart grow fonder, “out of sight, out of mind” is another saying when it comes to long distance relationships. What this means is that it’s easy for someone to forget about someone/something when they’re not near them/it.

In long distance relationships, it might be harder for you to make time for each other because you’re so busy focused on your own lives.

Communication Issues

Like I just mentioned chomas, making time to communicate can be a bit hard.  When you’re around your partner it’s easier to include them in your plans. However, when you’re not in the same place your plans could clash with their plans and the time you spend communicating could be affected. It’s also easier for misunderstandings to happen when you’re communicating over the phone because you can’t really see your partner’s face or body language. Network issues can also disturb your communication times with your partner.

Trust issues

Sometimes long distance relationships also come with trust issues and jealousy. If you’re not very secure in your relationship you might spend a lot of time wondering what your partner is up to and who they’re with. This makes the relationship more stressful and could cause a lot of issues between the two of you.

Growing Apart

Because you spend so much time being on your own and with your own friends while not sharing too many moments with your partner, there is a chance that you will start to feel like you’re growing apart.  Them not being there to share stuff with you means that you’re sharing with other people so your partner might actually end up being left out or come across as being less understanding than other people in your life.

When it comes down to it, the success of a long distance relationship depends on your own expectations. A long distance relationship does mean more effort but if you really work at it, it could be rewarding. So what do you think chomas, is a long distance relationship worth it?
