Sending nudes (naked pictures of yourself) can be a fun and private way to flirt or sext with someone you trust, like your partner. It’s usually a spur-of-the-moment thing, and you might not think of the risks that come with pressing that “send” button. Before you do that, here are 6 things you should consider before you send nudes.

They might get leaked

Your nudes might get leaked by the person you sent them to – or someone else (should they lose their phone). The thing about leaked nudes, and posts in general, is that they don’t go away, which means they’ll always be on the internet even years from today.  

Are you underage?  

Did you know that sending or having nudes that belong to someone who is a minor is considered child pornography and it is illegal? If you’re under the age of 18 and you’re distributing naked pictures of yourself – you’re actually breaking the law.

Can the recipient be trusted?  

It takes a lot of trust to send someone else parts of your body that should be private and what you should ask yourself is, can they be trusted? For example, if you guys decide to part ways, how confident are you that they won’t show their friends your nudes?

It might affect your future

Believe it or not, sending nudes can have possible lifetime consequences which can affect your future negatively. What you might think is a joke or harmless fun can damage future career prospects or relationships.

We live in a digital world where we like sharing our lives with everyone; including strangers. What we don’t realise is that what we put out to the world can come back and bite us when we least expect it. So ask yourself, can you risk your nudes affecting you 10 years from now?
