Tips to celebrate Valentine’s Day with BAE

Valentine’s day is all celebrating love and show your partner how much you appreciate them. Here are some ways you can spend the day with your partner, while prioritising your safety and happiness.

Ask for consent

Even if you and your partner have been together for a long time, it’s important to always ask for consent before trying to have sex. Asking for consent every single time shows respect for your partner. So, remember, even if things get heated this V-Day, make sure you have consent from your partner.  Just because you are in a relationship with someone doesn’t mean you’re entitled to their body and it doesn’t make them entitled to yours. Remember that you need consent to touch, kiss or have sex with your partner every single time. Anything done out of consent is considered rape or sexual assault.

Use a condom

If you and your partner are not ready to have kids, make sure you use condoms. Using a condom is one of the best ways to prevent unwanted pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Condoms are not only restricted to those in a “situationships”, or those who are not yet ready to put labels on their relationship. It’s also important for those in committed relationships to prioritise preventing unwanted pregnancy and STIs. Remember that condoms are a non-hormonal contraceptive, which means that you don’t have to worry about any of the side effects caused by hormonal contraceptives. They’re also free and easily available at clinics.

Valentine’s Day isn’t all about the flowers and chocolate, it’s also about staying safe while having fun. Remember that your gifts and activities don’t have to be expensive, either – making your own gifts for your partner can make it a lot more special.
