5 Pregnancy Myths

Loading

When you’re a young woman who doesn’t know much about pregnancy- it could leave you conflicted and confused about a lot of information that is easily available. You may also hear a lot of pregnancy myths which are not true from friends and family, and I will tell you about 5 in this article.

You can’t fall pregnant during your period

Remember each person’s menstrual cycle is different, and sperm can live inside of you for up to 5 days, so it’s possible to ovulate towards the end of your period and that increases your chance of falling pregnant.

You can’t fall pregnant the first time you have sex

Having sex for the first or fifth time doesn’t determine whether you will fall pregnant or not. Despite the number of times you’ve been sexually active, the chances of falling pregnant are the same.

Douching after sex gets rid of sperm

Douching (cleaning the inside of your vagina with water or other fluids) is not good for your vaginal pH balance and sadly, doing it right after sex will not clean out sperm or prevent pregnancy.

Drinking Coca-Cola and aspirin kills sperm

Some young people believe that a homemade mixture of aspirin and coke has the ability to kill sperm and prevent pregnancy. That is false Choma, homemade mixtures like this might cause complications and get you sick. The only thing that prevents pregnancy is contraceptives, like the pill and condoms.

You can’t get pregnant from pre-cum

Pre-cum is a clear fluid that can be released by a guy when he gets an erection. It is possible to get pregnant from pre-cum because it may contain some sperm.

If you’re not planning on having a baby, I strongly recommend that you use a male or female condom properly. Yes, contraceptives may prevent an unwanted pregnancy but they won’t protect you from STIs.

If you’ve had unprotected sex or a condom accident in last 72 hours, rather get Plan-B pill (the morning after pill) from your local healthcare provider.
