Myths about friendships between women

When it comes to friendship, there’s nothing as great as building a support system with your girl-friends you know you can trust for life. If you’ve been lucky enough to find a circle of really great women you can depend on when things get tough, or laugh with when times are great, then you know that the rumours about how women can’t be friends are so untrue. But these myths still exist, and I think it’s time to put them to rest, once and for all.

Women are always jealous of each other

Sure, everyone experiences jealousy sometimes, but it’s not true that women are always jealous of each other. Jealousy isn’t a thing that only women go through in friendships, many people go through it for different reasons, and sometimes you might find out that you have a friend who is always jealous of you- here’s an article to help you deal with it if that’s what you’re facing. Friendships is supposed to be about celebrating each other through the good times and helping one another through the hard times, Choma.

Women mostly fight over guys

When you’re interested in a guy or are dating someone, you’ll probably tell your close friends all about it, right? Sometimes there can be a bit of “love drama” between friends, but it doesn’t mean it only happens with women. Having disagreements in your friendships is normal, but what keeps friends together is knowing how to deal with the fights in a healthy way and learning to set boundaries with each other.

Women’s friendships aren’t as real as men’s

Friendships between women are always labelled as “fake” when they don’t last long, but the truth is that some friendships aren’t meant to last forever and that’s okay. A lot of people have a “day one” friend who has been there from the very beginning, and they might make some extra friends along the way. It’s important to remember that as you grow and change, so will your friends, and this doesn’t mean that your friendship is fake at all. One of my favourite sayings about friends that come and go is this: “We have 3 types of friends in life- friends for a reason, friends for a season and friends for a lifetime”.

In the end, there isn’t really a difference between men’s and women’s friendships. Sure, we all go through different kinds of challenges because men and women go through different things in life, but having good friends isn’t about gender. Whether you’re a guy or a girl, having a good set of friends around you is one of the most important things you can have for yourself, and us girls really need to celebrate each other and stick together, now more than ever.
